Top Family Vacation Destinations for 2007

Top Family Vacation Destinations for 2007

When you are looking for a family vacation destination, it is necessary to consider the children. A family vacation is not going to be enjoyable unless it is enjoyable for them as well. The perfect spot would have activities that appeal to all ages. There are many places that would fit this bill, but there is nothing better to keep children happy on vacation than water. The beach is a place for all ages. The little ones can play in the sand and the teenagers can seek romance while the parents soak up the sun and sip those little drinks with umbrellas. Here is my short list for the top family vacations spots, and they all have plenty of beaches available.

The top of the list has to be Florida. It is not far away and fairly easy to reach from the East coast of the United States. It has beaches up and down both sides of the state. The Orlando area has some of the top children’s attractions anywhere in the world with Disney World, The Epcot Center and Universal Studios. There are an endless number of things to do and places to go in Florida, and they speak English and use American money. There is really no downside to it. The weather is almost always going to be nice, and although you can find luxury enough to suit the most extravagant taste, you can also find economy as well.

If you are thinking of leaving the country, Jamaica is the second choice. Jamaica is considered to be the most beautiful of all the Caribbean Islands. It is all very family oriented. Most of the major resorts there are very children friendly. Supervised children’s activities and kid’s meals are very common. Family discounts are available in many places as well. Jamaica is an island, so there are plenty of beaches here also. A few of the resorts on Jamaica even offer a “vacation nanny”, so that you can get a little time also.

To add a little balance to the list, we need a west coast resort area. Many people would suggest Hawaii as the ideal place for a family vacation, and that is hard to argue with. Hawaii is also an island, and there is certainly plenty to do there. The only problem with Hawaii is that it is quite a distance away, and getting there is often a bit expensive. My choice would be Cabo San Lucas located at the very southern tip of Baja California. This resort area sits where the Bay of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean meet and it is a little bit of paradise that is within easy reach of the western states of the United States. Cabo San Lucas vacation rentals can be found to meet any taste and budget. Many celebrities including Hollywood stars maintain Cabo San Lucas condominiums for their get away vacations, but you do not have to be rich or famous to enjoy this pristine and unspoiled resort area.

The Disney Magic Kingdom was the first theme park ever designed and built at Walt Disney World, since October 1, 1971. It is located off I-4 southern Orlando, Florida. Its attractions and layout are the same with Disneyland Park in California. Disney Magic Kingdom’s appeal and enchantment to visitors is absolute, regardless of age and status. Countless of visitors from various places around the world come to see and experience the Disney Magic Kingdom’s enchantment.

Magical sights and scenes

There are five different lands or areas that make up the Disney Magic Kingdom, which are Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Liberty Square, Adventureland, and Frontierland. Each land has it ingeniously designed theme, presenting a world of dream and exciting activity. These separate areas are contentiously maintained to stand for their titles and for further generations to appreciate it.

Specifically, Fantasyland takes to life fairytales (e.g., princes and princesses, castles) we all have been fascinated with. Tomorrowland showcases futuristic transports like space ships and some extraterrestrial beings, whereas Liberty Square highlights America’s affluent historical heritage from earlier time to current setting. Adventureland, on the other hand, displays some of Disney’s most popular accurate adventure movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise to name a few. Lastly, Frontierland shows off Wild West’s soaring legends, such as men in cowboy suits, old towns, and miner journey.

Also, you and your family should definitely have to experience and fully enjoy all the spectacular rides and attractions available in each unique land. The Splash Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean are included in the favorites list by the wide range of visitors. Disney Magic Kingdom has everything for the enjoyment and learning as well of all age groups. After the fun ride, you can go watch together more impressive sights and scenes, such as the colorful and lively parades, and featured fireworks show at night.

See you favorite Disney characters

More amazingly is having the chance to finally meet up with the all-time favorite Disney characters. Who wouldn’t want to have a close encounter with Aladdin, Ariel, Belle, and Cinderella among others? Surely, your kids wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to spend some memorable fun time with Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Goofy and more of them. I certainly would not want to miss this.

Plan it ahead and wisely

When making plans to one of the world’s no. 1 vacation destination, it is advisable to include in your plan a list of schedules as to which highlights and places you would want to see at each time. Make a list as which sight to see first and which would be the last one. Las Vegas – A Family Getaway Destination

Las Vegas – A Family Getaway Destination

Las Vegas is a great family holiday destination. This city, famed for its numerous casinos and its scintillating nightlife also has a lot of activities that you could enjoy as a family. In fact, many casinos recognize the importance of family vacations and offer a host of family-friendly activities alongside their primary gambling attractions.

One of the main attractions in Las Vegas, other than the casinos is the High Roller. The High Roller is a 909-foot high roller coaster at the Stratosphere Hotel. Unless a newer and bigger roller coaster comes along, the High Roller has the distinction of being the highest roller coaster in the world, making it literally the biggest attraction in Las Vegas. The High Roller consists of tracks in excess of 800 feet and with sharply banking turns that could zip you along at speeds as high as 32 miles an hour. This exhilarating ride could set you back $5 a trip and you do get daily passes. As with most roller coasters, especially ones that are so high and steep, height restrictions are enforced.

Another great activity to indulge in with the kids is spending the day at the zoo. The Nevada Zoological and Botanical Park makes no tall claims of being the biggest zoo in the world, nevertheless it is a great way to spend the day with the kids. They have quite a few exotic birds and animals including wallabies, ostriches, flamingoes and emus. The chimpanzees at this zoo are a huge hit with the smaller kids. Sometimes their antics could even impress older kids. You can make a choice between a half-day and a full day ecotour of the desert. This could be a great fun-cum-learning experience for children as they learn about so many different aspects of the desert.

Who could resist the romantic charms of a gondola ride? You could stay at the Venetian Hotel and Casino and experience its authentic gondola ride as a double bonus. You have a choice of outdoor as well as indoor gondola rides. The gondolier serenades you with the romantic sounds of Venice while you float under bridges and past beautiful landscapes. There are romantic 2-person gondola rides as well as gondola rides for the whole family. Reservations for gondola rides have to be done in person on the same day as the ride.

Did you know there was a Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Las Vegas? This is an absolutely-must-do on your Las Vegas family vacation. It offers you that unforgettable opportunity of golfing with Tiger Woods, singing with Elvis and sailing with the infamous Jack Sparrow. Here you could come face to face with some of Hollywood’s most famous faces. Don’t forget to take your camera along to record those memorable moments.

Las Vegas, the original gambling town was completely focused on its casinos and glitzy nightlife. Rather lately the city has recognized the importance of promoting family activities alongside the gambling activities. The gambling casinos themselves offer families a lot of tempting choices that have families coming back for more!

Ski Vacation Packages Perfect For Family Getaways

Ski Vacation Packages Perfect For Family Getaways

When it is time to escape from the gray and gloomy days of winter, family ski vacation packages can help you to enjoy the kind of getaway that you and your family deserve. While you can plan ski vacations in your favorite resort by booking a room, buying your lift ticket and booking your travel separately, you can often save a great deal of money with a package deal.

Booking a family vacation is probably the very best and most cost effective way to be able to take the whole family on a trip. Often, there are discount packages that can be found with some extra time, effort and initiative, which can end up saving you even more money.

The discount packages are often available during the time when the mountain ski resorts are slow. With a little innovative scheduling, and willingness to let the kids miss a day or two of school, a great destination package can be found.

One of the best ways to find the family ski vacation packages that offer the best deals is to connect with a travel agent. Such an agent might be found on the web or they might be located right around the corner. Keep in mind that the more well-versed a travel agent is in ski vacations and ski packages, the more likely they will be able to hook you up with a package that you probably would not have been able to locate on your own.

You can also find some good packages for the family through the airline you use or directly from a particular resort. The drawback to this approach is that it is often more difficult and time consuming to really compare the various package options that you find.

However, there is also a possibility of uncovering a hidden gem of a package that might not otherwise be publicized. This is especially true when checking directly with the mountain ski resorts in the areas in which you are interested.

No matter how you find the family ski destination, be sure to carefully look at the website for the resort before you take that final step in booking the package. Aside from what might be offered in the ski vacation package, you want to also be sure that the resort offers a good variety of different activities for the whole family, especially for those members who might not want to ski or who don’t know how.

Nowadays, most of the top resorts that cater to family ski vacations also have a nice array of optional activities beyond the traditional skiing and snowboarding. Some of these alternative activities include ski schools, snowboarding lessons, tobogganing, sledding, ice skating, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and even the nostalgic sleigh rides. Even if these various activities are offered by the chosen resort, they might not be included in the package deal, so be sure to check on these details.

Most ski vacation packages will include everything you need for a wonderful family winter escape such as airfare, accommodations, lift tickets and even ski or snowboard lessons. Some packages will also include car rentals or will provide a shuttle service. However, skiing equipment and skiing accessories are generally not included in most packages.

How to Plan the Ideal Family Getaway

How to Plan the Ideal Family Getaway

The elderly gets stressed over their numerous medical disorders, adults get stressed over their careers, teenagers get stressed over their ever-changing lives, and kids get stressed over school. Obviously, no matter what age or gender you belong to, you can never escape the draining effects of stress. If one of the traits you and your family have in common is exhaustion and sleepless nights, it’s time to take one step back and provide yourselves with a much needed breathing space.

And the only way to do that is by having a family vacation getaway this weekend!

Tips on How to Plan the Ideal Family Vacation Getaway

Planning Starts on Friday – Inform your supervisor that you intend to take the day off on Friday to have sufficient time to plan for your family vacation getaway on the coming weekend. Make sure that you also finish your work by Thursday night as you’ll be entertaining no calls from the office throughout the weekend.

Although your kids don’t have to skip school on the last day of the week, they also have to make sure that they don’t leave any loose ends once you hit the road on Saturday. As such, remind them to have their assignments done by Friday night.

Location, Location, Location – Since you’ll only be spending a weekend and not a whole week on vacation, it’s best that you choose a destination which won’t take you too long to reach. If it will take you hours to reach your destination by car, consider taking the plane instead.

Accommodation must be carefully chosen as well. They must provide all the luxury that your family needs. Remember that this weekend’s family vacation getaway is all about letting off steam and relaxing, and you won’t be able to do that if you’re stuck in a cheap but sleazy motel. This weekend is all about indulging yourself!

Pampering Yourself – Adults and teenagers should treat themselves with an hour at the spa. They can enjoy the sauna, bathe in rose water, or have their whole bodies massaged. It’s important that each and every one of you find the right therapy to help you lower your stress levels. As for kids, allow them to eat and watch TV more or longer than what’s usual.

Zzzz Time – Sleep is unfortunately a far underrated activity. It’s also one of the things that are severely affected by stress. When you feel stressed, you’re most likely unable to sleep. This however can be easily remedied with a family vacation getaway. You can give you and your kids a room of their own so you can all enjoy your rest separately and more peacefully. Sleep early and wake up late!

Avoid Tiring Activities – Remember that the goal for this weekend’s family vacation getaway is to give you and your family much needed rest. That certainly won’t happen if you’re going to spend it playing exciting but exhausting sports, gambling at the casino all night, and so forth. Instead of these activities, consider spending majority of the day just catching up on your reading, listening to great music, and yes, sleeping.

Eating Together – All of you will also be able to relax more if you and your family spend time together, and the best way to do that is by sharing meals. Whether you order in or eat out doesn’t matter just as long as you and your family rediscover the simple pleasures of spending time in each other’s company!

Stress Relief Techniques – Most hotels offer yoga and meditation classes as well as cooking and writing workshops to their guests. All these are great ways to help you get rid of stress from your body. Find one which appeal to you then ask if your family wishes to join you. Even if they don’t, that shouldn’t mean you shouldn’t join it as well.

Retail Therapy – No family vacation getaway is complete without at least an hour’s worth of retail therapy. You can shop at the mall and at bazaars that are held in the vicinity. Ask around to find great shopping sites where you can haggle for the price.

Lastly, don’t forget to talk to each other and updating everyone about what’s going on with your life. Whether you’re vacationing in Europe or the Middle East is irrelevant; if you don’t enjoy the people you’re with, your family vacation getaway will amount to nothing. But if you do enjoy your time with your family, focus on strengthening your bonds to each other and you’ll soon see that all of you will return home not only looking better but feeling better overall as well.

5 Ways You Can Enjoy Affordable Disney Family Vacations

While there are certain costs that come with your vacation that you can’t control. There are many more that you can save money on. Food, lodging, transportation, souvenirs and theme park admission can vary greatly from one week to another. By doing some research, both online and by talking to a qualified travel agent, you will soon realize that taking an affordable Disney family vacation isn’t as hard as it sounds!

-Deciding where you will stay during your vacation is extremely important! While staying at a Disney resort may be a bit more expensive than staying off-site, you can take advantage of the free shuttles to and from the Theme Parks, which could completely eliminate the cost of a rental car. While some off-site hotels offer free shuttles, not all do so it’s best to ask.

-Another option could be to rent a home in Orlando. Many rental homes are available within a few miles of Walt Disney World. Inviting another family to travel with you is yet another tip to reduce the cost of your vacation.

-Food in the Disney theme parks can be expensive. If you want to enjoy affordable Disney family vacations, then I suggest you consider the Disney Dining Plan. What this does is gives you one table service meal, one quick service meal and one snack per person per day. With over 100 restaurants at all the Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts to choose from, you don’t have to eat the same thing twice! The Disney Dining Plan is a great way to save 30% or more off the cost of food during the length of your vacation.

-A great tip to save money on souvenirs is to bring them with you! Buy trinkets, t-shirts and coffee mugs online, or at a Disney Store location and pack them in your suitcase before you travel. Give one a day to your children and they won’t want to buy as many items from the theme parks, which can have an unbelievable markup.

-If you are planning on taking an affordable Disney family vacation yearly, I recommend the 10 day Magic Your Way Ticket with the no expiration option. This allows you to use any number of days you would like to during your vacation. Say you are vacationing for a week, but you decide to go to Sea World or Universal Studios for a couple of days and you only visit Disney World three days. With the No Expiration Option, you can save the remaining seven unused days. They never expire. Magic Your Way Tickets come in anywhere from one to ten days. The more days you purchase, the less the price per day.

Best Family Beach Vacations in Anguilla

Best Family Beach Vacations in Anguilla

If it is your first visit to Anguilla, you are bound to be surprised by the level of hospitality the tiny island with a population of a mere 12,000 people will offer you. The number of Anguillions is undoubtedly small, but their hearts are big and smiles welcoming. The island is popular for its tranquility and has every natural ingredient to make you feel how beautiful life is when you’re in nature’s lap.

Anguilla is renowned for its beaches. Its 35-mile coastline has over 33 beaches, of which, many rank among the best in the Caribbean. The beauty of the soft white sand sloping calmly into the shallow blue waters is breathtaking. What is special about the island is the fact that it has beaches of a wide variety to suit individual preferences. There are beaches that are quiet and secluded, some others that are busier, some ideal for a romantic walk, and some that are coves specially designed for snorkeling, diving, and conducting romantic picnics. All these beaches are serene and spectacular, with cleanliness all around. The most spectacular sight is that of the saltwater ponds that shelter snowy egrets and great blue herons.

Standards of accommodation in Anguilla are very high, and so is the famous gourmet cuisine’s quality. There are plenty of hotels on the island specializing in offering a luxurious stay. One also has a variety of options in budget accommodations to choose from.

Here are some resorts we recommend for family vacations in Anguilla:

Malliouhana Hotel & Spa
Arawak Beach Inn
La Sirena Hotel
Carimar Beach Club
Rendezvous Bay Hotel & Villas
Shoal Bay Villas

If you are traveling with younger kids, you may want to primarily focus on hotels that offer an organized children’s program or babysitting. Or if you’re vacationing in Anguilla with kids that are older, you might want to pay particular attention to hotels that provide a game room or arcade, and also offer outdoor activities like a swimming pool, water sports, and tennis. No matter what amenities are important for your family, Anguilla has a resort that will be perfect for your family beach vacation.

Interestingly, no visitor can get lost in the island, as there is only one main road, aptly called the Main Road. This road branches off beautifully to bays and beaches that nature lovers, swimmers, divers, and sun worshippers are mesmerized with, and would never want to leave.

Pet Friendly Family Vacations and Tips

Pet Friendly Family Vacations and Tips

First thing is to research where you want to take your Dog on Vacation. A place that is suited for both you and your pet.

If your pet is going to be traveling in a carrier, make sure it is big enough for your pet to be comfortable. If your pet is not used to being in a carrier then give them time to get familiar with it. Put it out so your pet can get used to having it around. Put their favorite blanket or toys in the carrier to encourage them to go in it. You can also give them treats while they are in the carrier to reinforce that the carrier can be a fun and happy place. This helps cut down with the stress of traveling.

Never leave a muzzle or choke chain or anything else on your pet that could harm them while traveling in the carrier. And remember to keep the leash with you, you will need it when picking up your pet for that much needed walk. Also, try and walk your pet just before you put it in the carrier, you do not need any accidents while traveling. Another thing to remember is to make sure your pet has water for the flight because dehydration happens quicker in flight. It is also a good idea to not feed your pet for at least two hours before your flight to help prevent any accidents, check with your vet to make sure this is safe for your pet.

Saving Money on Your Vacation

There are plenty of internet sites you can go to find Discount Travel information. There are also websites that are for traveling with your pet, places you can go and take your pet. Make sure when booking your reservation you let them know you are bring your pet. There could be additional fees.

The time of year will make a difference for the cost of your vacation. Off Season is the best for saving money if that works for your vacation plans. You can also call your destination choice if it is not within your budget and ask about any available discounts or any suggestions on saving money.

A few things that do not cost anything to do and are fun for the family and your pet are: hiking, swimming, going to the beach, and off leash parks. Rent a car. It will cost you a little but to get away from the usual tourist spots is well worth it and your dog would love the ride.

Things to Remember to take for Your Pet

Getting ready for a vacation can be hectic so here is a list of a few things to bring along for your pet:

Food and water, treats, medication (if necessary), brush, comb, tweezers (in case of something in paw), lint and hair remover, baby wipes to clean your pets paws with before they come inside and a flash light if camping for those after dark dog walking trips.

There are a lot of great memories to be made with your family and pets so relax and enjoy your vacation. And don’t forget the camera!

Family Vacations – Getting More For Your Dollar

Family Vacations – Getting More For Your Dollar

Have spending cutbacks forced you to change your family vacation plans this year? Are you looking for a family get away, but get sticker shock when you find out how much it will cost for travel, hotels, and food?

The average family of four or five people will spend at least $100 per day on restaurant meals (unless you eat all fast food, but who wants to eat fast food every meal for a week?)

After checking on hotels for the summer in West Yellowstone, just outside of Yellowstone National Park, the rates range from $119 to $185 per night, and that is for a maximum of four people. If you have five in your family, you must get two rooms, and now your nightly rates are $238 to $370. These rates are for an average room, just two beds and one bathroom.

Your daily cost just for food and lodging if you have a family of five is between $338 and $470. That makes a five night vacation cost at least $1,690. If you only have four in your family, the cost is still $1145, not including taxes and other charges from the hotel.

What are the alternatives? Well, one often overlooked way to vacation is through vacation rentals, or rental cabins.

A cabin near Yellowstone will cost you between $150 to $200 per night. Most of these cabins will have multiple bedrooms, a full kitchen (not just a timeshare style kitchen), and at least two bathrooms.

How much easier would your vacation be if two people could shower at the same time, instead of everyone waiting in line for the bathroom? What if you could get the kids a snack from the refrigerator, instead of paying five times the normal cost by getting them something out of the mini-bar refrigerator?

Vacation rentals in the Yellowstone area can range from $160 to over $200 per night, and many of these rentals can sleep ten or more people. This means that your lodging bill could drop from $470 per night to as little as $160 per night, while giving you better accommodations.

When you use a vacation rental, you can have the best of both worlds. You can either stop by a local grocery store, and buy food for you meals, or if you don’t feel like cooking you can still go to a restaurant. Instead of spending $40 or more for the family for breakfast, you could fix eggs, waffles, cereal, or whatever you want at one tenth the price of the restaurant. If you want to use the money you saved on a nicer restaurant meal for dinner you can, or you can prepare your own dinner and save even more. By preparing some of your own food, your eating expenses for the family can drop from $100+ to around $25 per day.

By choosing a vacation rental instead of a hotel, your five night vacation could go from $1690 to only $1000. Not only will you save money, but you will have a lot more room for your family to relax in. Another idea that many people do is they find another family to vacation with. Because the vacation rental property is so much larger than a hotel room, two families of five people can stay in one rental with a 10 person occupancy, thereby splitting the cost of the rental. Now your $1000 vacation is only around $600.

Be sure to check my other article about finding the right vacation rental property for you!

Tim Petersen loves vacationing with his family. After spending too much money on a Yellowstone vacation, he and his family decided to invest in a cabin outside of Yellowstone, and not use it themselves, but offer it to others to rent as well.

The Best Family Vacation Packages

The road trip is a classic American vacation. While higher prices for gas in the summer months can deter some, the savvy traveler can find ways to budget this accordingly. Renting smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles is a great way to keep gas prices low on a road trip. Renting a car for a road trip also avoids putting costly miles on your own vehicle. It is also just enjoyable to drive a different car while you get away with your family, significant other, or even by yourself.

One of the fastest ways to travel to your destination is by air. Millions of travelers rely on the airlines to get them to their destinations quickly and safely. While this may be a choice method of travel due to its speed, it can be costly. Another thing to consider is if your final destination has an airport close by. A good idea is to travel on an off day like Tuesday or Wednesday so you can achieve lower prices and less busy airports.

Finally, rail travel is becoming more popular again. For the same price as most would pay for a decent vacation destination, a couple can travel in a private car on a train through the United States. Some train vacations are even coupled with cruises through the shores and wilderness of Alaska and Canada. These mobile vacations allow the travelers to see wildlife and untouched scenery that is hard to find anymore.

Remember, the vacation isn’t just about the destination, it is about how you get there that can make it an adventure. Take the time to plan what you will be doing along the way to your destination. If driving, stop off at scenic landmarks or monuments. These not only have historical value, but can also give people a change to stretch their legs and get out of the car for a few minutes.

If traveling by plane, look at a map, travel guide, or other book to see which activities you want to participate in once you arrive. While you don’t have to plan your entire vacation, having a few ideas never hurts, especially if you run into bad weather or places that are closed.

Your summer vacation should be about bonding together as a family. Planning your vacation and giving everyone a voice when it comes to making decisions will allow people to enjoy the entire vacation. It will also give people a chance to appreciate each other.
